The “Flammable” series of
three soy wax-based candles
have been developed for the
sophisticated man who
already
looks upon Baxter as a
lifestyle brand that goes
beyond cutting-edge
grooming.
The fragrance blend is
decidedly unexpected… a dark
and
mysterious floral scent
paired with bright citrus
encourage an unusual,
striking
take on how men should
represent themselves in
their
environment. Yet they will
appeal greatly to women too,
in the same way that a man’s
fragrance appeals to both
wearer and admirer – indeed
these candles are intended
to
have a similarly seductive
effect. The attention to
detail extends to the
packaging which has been
design by international art
director Marc Atlan, the man
behind the iconic packaging
of
Comme des Garçons, Helmut
Lang
and Yves Saint-Laurent. Marc
describes his design for
“Flammable” as a ‘conceptual
and chic understatement.’
The
glass is reminiscent of an
expensive whiskey tumbler,
embellished with silk-
screened
graphic dots, echoing the
glass dimples on its base,
which are gradually revealed
as the candle burns (the
lifespan is approximately 70
hours). A further grid
pattern
of dots are embossed around
the contrasting white outer
box, making the object
pleasing to the touch even
before opening. The final
detail is a running block of
black foiled text that
serves
as a blatantly irreverent
description.
